What Documents Are Required
Confirm with HSBC which documents are required to open a personal or business bank account before you meet.
Typically, the following documents will be required when you meet:
- Identification – Passport or Drivers Licence with an address
- BRP – Biometric Residence Permit
- Certificate of Incorporation – business accounts only
- Proof of UK Address – utility bill or bank statement dated within the past 3 months
Obviously this last point can be a little tricky for new arrivals in the UK.
Australian or New Zealand bank statements with UK addresses are accepted as proof of UK address.
So our advice is people notify their New Zealand or Australian bank of a change of address, and request a bank statement with at least 6 transactions is posted to their new residential address in London.
Commercial address such as a hostel, hotel or office are not acceptable, however, a residential address such as friends flat where you stay on arrival should suffice.
How Long Does a Meeting Last
Allow 45 to 90 minutes to open personal and business bank accounts.
What To Expect From That Meeting
You should leave the meeting with your bank account details, internet and mobile banking set up.
Your new bank card will be posted to your UK residential address within 7 working days and your pin after that.
